Subject :  New Book for Newly Hard of Hearing
posted by DeafGirlAmy on Sat May 21, 2011 8:52 pm
Hi Everybody,

I just wrote a book for people who suffer from late onset hearing loss and for the people who love them. It's called "A Survival Guide for New Deafies" being published by Deaf Girl Publishing

I wrote the book because when I lost my hearing I couldn't find a book that wasn't technical. In my book, I cover the top ten rules of a new deafie, the do's and don'ts for family and friends, de-mystifying audiograms, the pros of being a deafie and a section on my experiences as a deaf girl.

My hope is to save someone the time and trouble I went through figuring it out all by myself. It was a painful hurtful journey I wouldn't wish on anyone. My book offers unique skills to help transition to a deafie less painful.

I also want to get the word out that there are a LOT of people like me... that aren't part of the hearing world but also not part of Deaf Culture. We are the lost voice and I am starting to shout from the roof tops that the stigma of being hard of hearing has got to stop. Don be afraid to wear hearing aids or a Cochlear Implant. Flaunt them!! I have named my campaign "Flaunt Your Bits and Pieces" a reference to hearing aids and CI's!

So Flaunt them!!
Sending Smiles, :)
