| kooch, I know I'm going to be where you are now, with your hearing problems, one of these days. And, my choice, is going to be about the same as yours -- I won't be going back to audiologists/fitters that will not chair me in as a partner; and/or do not give me the self-fine-tuning controls that AH has afforded me since 2005, with no problems. And, as prices of HAs and go back appointments become more $$$ generated - more and more HOH people (young, middle aged, and senior citizens) will say that the risk of a good hearing aid fit and the short life span of hearing aids - even if they do work - will not be worth the time, money, and trouble put into the process. So many young people with hearing problems I have talked to -- not wearing hearing aids and don't intend to - just trying to find a job, any job -- just for meals and a roof over their heads for the next month or so. Hearing aids, they say, you've got to be kidding! Daily website headlines talk about trillion$$$$$$$$$ debit being left for young generations, to come, to take care of.. Me thinks that the average American Citizen still does not get it, what This Country is about to (or already has) step into. I was born in the early 1930's - took until the late 1950's for our country to get back on it's feet, again - and, that was even a struggle. This time, what is happening now, is much different - for different reasons. IMHO, many of the HA professionals will be put on the bottom of the medical ladder because they can't rake in the $$$$$ called for to satisfy the manuacturers. And, the HOH folks, will still be at their position, even lower than the professionals. Then, everything will fall apart, and if there are any HOH people still standing and still want some kind of HA, they will have to go to the end of the line, forming, with National Government taking care of HOH people's needs. Not fun and games, anymore. Check this out - for it is true, every word of it - as it happened to my Uncle (a returning German prisoner of war, WW II vet) died five years, ago; still being given the run with appointment issues, concerning his HAs. kooch, I had (and still have) the sweet success of AH --- --- forever??? No, not really; but still thankful, none the less. Added observation: I bought a new computer in 2000, waiting and hoping for seeing what AH was able to offer for my hearing loss. It looks like my computer, my AH Freedom Vtec CICs, and all the programming and software eqipment will go bottom's up in another year or so (if it takes that long). Figures, I guess! No more pocket change to replace or go hunt out more that probably won't work. So, I'll just become one of the HUH? group, again. Whatever! Just doesn't seem that important, anymore. Easier, that way. Doesn't have to be this way, but it is. Take care, kip |
