Subject : A Pondering Observation/Question posted by kip on Thu Oct 28, 2010 10:11 am |
| In thinking about having to purchase hearing aids, doing my homework, I realized that something was missing in the informtion I was gathering -- the prices of various brands/ models/types of hearing aids. In all of the hearing aid business I have visited, locally, not one had prices of hearing aids listed for HOH people to view. I began to wonder, why not? The brand name, and - sometimes, the pictures of at least one type/model were in plain sight -- but, no prices. I thought this strange. Even a "mfg. suggested retail price" - no where to be seen. Even, on the Internet, AH's website is the only one, that I have observed, listing (up front, for all to view), prices - with an extra alert to call them for "monthly specials". Now, I don't know about you, but I always like to know how much an item will cost, before even starting to think about buying. Clothing, foods, gasoline, entertainment, eye glasses, and many, many more - all have prices listed in plain view. Even vehicles have window mfg suggested price glued to the side window. Just a given. So, why not prices for hearing aids? A small chart, with prices listed - easy to see, easy to read, easy to understand - to greet a HOH person, coming in to check out what hearing aids are all about would be a nice starting point. Now, I have seen ample booklets, available to read while waiting, but the information in these booklets seems to be the starting point of the hard sell - hoping the pretty pictures will start with a positive attitude, even though they really don't tell the truth of the matter - ie: prices - just helpful information, in general, for out of picket money purchase would really be nice while waiting for first visit with a fitter.. I guess, all this important imformation will only be given/available after the sale - money up front - is completed. I find this way of doing business kind of like "the cart before the horse". Would you even consider buying your home, even if you were able to pay cash, without knowing the price and all the add on's and all the "perks" as the first part of important homework? I know I wouldn't. If price is such an important issue, before the sale, for HOH people, why don't the fitters find that issue, up front, before the sale, important, also? I think, if I have reason to visit, locally, one of these hearing aid offices -- I'll ask the "why not?" How about you? Happy hearing, kip |
