Subject :  Software and Programming Equipment - Thoughts on
posted by kip on Fri Oct 22, 2010 10:08 am
These are some of the things I have learned about fittings, software, and programming equipment that the despensers won't want to tell you - even if you ask. Some of this information might just be my opinion, but some I have experienced wondering why I couldn't hear when I should be able to, during the fitting processes. Hearing manufacturering companies on down the line to despensers - profit is first in line, because no profit, no business. So, to stay in business (with a profit), some take the easy way out (or so they think) and cut corners, where they can. This only leads to trying to use out dated software and programmers with, maybe, a three to five year's usable time period for many years after that. Then, when the fitters go back to the manufacturers, only to find (the fitter) needs to re-invest more money in the up-to-date software and, maybe, even the programming equipment - to work on the hearing aids that are about to go out of warranty, out of style, or not being produced anymore.
The most likely thing the fitter will do, so as to keep his hearing aid customer -- is to not tell and just keep on trying with work not working - and can't work - with hopes the customer can be talked into upgrading to a newer model - with, of course, more out of pocket money from the hearing aid customer. It's all about profit (first), for the System; then, if the hearing aid customer is successful with the fit from the fitter using the correct software and the correct programming equipment, and the correct "fitting" knowledge - then, maybe, the hearing aid customer will walk away, for awhile, with enjoyable hearing that he/she is entitled to have. Lots of "if only I had of known" in the hearing aid journey - to be sure.
