Subject : Homework - Hearing Loss/Hearing Aids, How very Important posted by kip on Mon Apr 26, 2010 12:24 pm |
| I go fourth with this subject, because I found it to be the first most important step, often over looked, before serious thoughts of purchasing aided hearing. I found, locally, hardly any information, if any, on the subject of ears/hearing aids is available. I have also observed, HA companys want to sell to their customers, first; then, try to answer questions later -- if later ever comes. If friends and/or family can supply positive help ( I could find none), that's a start for your personal homework notebook. Otherwise, I found the Internet's search strip, and scrolling -- always picking helpful, truthful knowledge subjects as much as possible - to be my start on my homework notebook journey for better understanding of answers to questions not found elsewhere. I'm very glad that my homework search lead me to www.hohadvocates.org Message Board, right away. For you see, I knew nothing about ears and knew nothing about hearing aids that worked. All I was told (by friends and family) was that HAs were very expensive, took a lot of go back appointments, and couldn't work and didn't work for them (didn't know why, just didn't work), and just discarded the aids and the effort, and just thought it was back to "Huh?", again. The more I searched into this subject matter, the more interested I became; and, the more my homework notebooks began to fill up with important knowledge I was viewing. Most information, I viewed and saved for my homework notebooks, was in laymen turns, not professional language. I was really glad to see easy to read and easy to understand "English spoken here" terms. When my successful HA journey ended, I found that I had five large homework notebooks filled with clippings, notes, and information, most of which I had printed out from my Internet search. I took control of my hearing loss, first, to see what I could find about my problems. As I have stated, at the first of this post, homework knowledge is just the first important step. Most Message Board readers and posters probably know the rest of their story; but, as for me - I know the start (with personal homework), the beginning (with determination), the middle - with more determination, and the end - whew, glad that's over (smile!) - of my successful HA journey makes me one happy camper, today. kip |
